Project Wake Up Call
Helping DC's Homeless
We believe everyone deserves to sleep with a roof over his or her head. When our first property in Baltimore opened, we launched Project Wake Up Call: Baltimore Uncovered. The art project is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Health Care for the Homeless, a provider of health-related services, education and advocacy to reduce the incidence and burdens of homelessness. As Hotel RL expands into Washington, DC, we've brought Project Wake Up Call along with us. At DC Uncovered, we're bringing attention to the struggles of the homeless in DC. Project Wake Up Call puts a twist on the ordinary donations process. If you donate $100 or more, you will receive an offer to stay at the Hotel RL location of your choice for one night.
Our partner, Unity Health Care, Inc., was founded in the District 30 years ago as Health Care for the Homeless. Unity provides primary, dental, and specialty health services to all District residents, including homeless individuals and families. Their mission is to promote healthier communities through compassion and comprehensive health and human services, regardless of the patient’s ability to pay. Currently, Unity is one of the largest primary care nonprofit organizations in the District of Columbia, serving more than 108,000 District residents annually through a network of twenty-nine health care sites and a staff of more than 900 compassionate and caring professionals.
It is estimated that on any given night in US, more than 600,000 people experience homelessness. As members of the lodging industry we feel it is our duty to do something about this. Project Wake Up Call is the response. Visit DC Uncovered to see more about the project, learn about our photographer Ian Tong, and see how you can assist the homeless in Washington, DC.
