06/15/17 - 7pm - Dr. Josh Friedman

You probably were taught somewhere along the way that depression is caused by a 'chemical imbalance' that can easily be fixed by taking an antidepressant. Maybe you got this idea from advertising that blankets the media, or from one of the doctors who you've seen for help. Sometimes an antidepressant helps, but more often things are a bit more complex. Come learn about the many root physical causes of depression that almost no doctors know about, how to identify what’s at the root of your depression and what well-researched and natural solutions can help!

Dr. Josh Friedman earned his doctorate in psychology from New York University and did post-doctoral training in Psychoanalytic Self Psychology at the Training and Research Institute for Self Psychology (TRISP) in New York City. After working in the field for a few years, it became clear that something was missing from traditional mental health treatment. Curiosity and a chance meeting led him to discover the world of Nutritional Psychology, which teaches that many psychological issues are caused or made worse by underlying biochemical issues or nutritional deficiencies (and sometime excesses). During his training as a psychologist he was drawn to the practice of Hatha Yoga which includes the power of breathing practices, meditation and movement in a transformational system. He found Yoga to be so helpful for working with depression issues at the deepest levels that he became certified as a yoga teacher at the Omaha Yoga and Bodywork Center. To enhance his effectiveness in helping clients heal and grow, he became certified as a Holistic Health Counselor at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York and went on to earn a Diploma of Comprehensive Nutrition (Dip.CN) from Huntington College of Health Sciences. He was lead to go deeper into the biochemistry of depression by studying Functional Nutrition for Mental Health through The Great Plains Laboratory, Dr. Charles Gant, Michael McEvoy and numerous other teachers. Dr. Josh started Integrative Depression Solutions to get depressed people unstuck by finding and fixing the root physical causes of their depression!
