Airborne and Special Ops Museum

This free museum tells the story of the army’s airborne and special ops divisions, from the early Parachute Test Platoons to today’s special ops missions. The doors opened on August 16th, 2000, the 60th anniversary of the original Test Platoon’s first parachute jump.

The Museum of the Cape Fear tells the story of North Carolina, from the original Native American settlements to today. Exhibits include Poe House, the house where Fayetteville’s most famous resident, Edgar Allen Poe, lived.

Pope Field, one of the busiest bases in the Air Mobility Command, and is located right in our own backyard. Home to Air Force units from five separate MAJCOMs and play a major role in supporting rapid deployment of the 18th Airborne Corps, 82nd Airborne Division, and Special Operations Forces. The Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum presents automobile artifacts all the way back to the invention of the car. Located in the restored 1890 Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley Railroad Depot, the museum also includes a model train room and a recreated 1920s gas station.
