National Cowboy Poetry Slam

The Best Words In The West

The National Cowboy Poetry Gathering annually celebrates ranching and the rural West. Poetry, music and stories express the beauty and challenges of a life rooted to the earth's bounty. Thousands come to Elko in the heart of winter to share their personal stories, in the most honest and open-hearted festival in America.

Discover cowboy cultures from across the world, learn a traditional skill, dance the two-step, watch films on rural life, enjoy Basque food, drink a Buckaroo Brew, and have a darned good time. Come to Elko to experience the quintessential culture of the West.

This year's festival runs from January 30th to February 4th, 2017. The theme is "Once Upon A Time in the West." Tickets go on sale to Western Folklife Center members the day after Labor Day and to non-members one day later. Stay with Red Lion Hotel & Casino Elko when you visit The National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. Our Elko hotel will not only provide you with comfortable accommodations but many activities in Elko as well.
