OPG Radio, Baltimore Flava Radio and Dj Storm of DMV Fleet DJ’s are hosting a Lunchtime Meet & Greet Interview of Hi-Five, the all male singing group that rose to fame in the 90’s. This will be the kickoff Meet & Greet as their Back to the 80s tour kicks off at The Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore Tonight, February 3rd.
Hi-Five the 90’s multi-platinum R&B singing group was originally signed to Jive Records in 1989 and released their first album in 1990 produced by Teddy Riley. ...The album went platinum and produced such singles as "I Just Can't Handle It" (R&B #10), "I Can't Wait Another Minute" (Pop #8, R&B #1), and their biggest hit to date, "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)", which went to number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the U.S. Hot R&B/HipHop Songs. They found success with a sound that updates elements of the Jackson 5 and New Edition and the new jack swing sound that dominated the 1990’s.
Hi-Five’s second album produced such hits as "She's Playing Hard To Get" (Pop #5, R&B #2) and the R. Kelly penned "Quality Time" (Pop #38, R&B #3). Hi-Five emerged with a third album which featured the songs "Unconditional Love" (Pop #92, R&B #21) and "Never Should've Let You Go" (Pop #30, R&B #10).
Even if you weren't old enough to play the “Kissing Game,” chances are you've heard Hi-Five's single of the same name on any number of urban, R&B stations around the world. The Kissing Game and many other Hi-Five hits are still in rotation today years later. Hi-Five debuted on Jive in 1990 with their self-titled hit album, which spawned singles like “Just Can't Handle It”, “Unconditional Love” and... their biggest single, “I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)” which hit #1 on both the pop and R&B charts.
Original Waco, TX members Marcus Sanders and Shannon Gill are still holding down the original Texas roots, with Bronx New York's Treston Irby featuring the group on his Bronx Most Wanted record label. New members Dre Wonda and Faruq Evans both New York natives complete the quintet and are featured prominently on “Favorite Girl”.
